dc.description	The genus Macrobrachium, from the family Palaemonidae, has been of great biological interest due to the number of species that comprise it, there are over 100 species described, of which 26 are found in America (Holthuis, 1980). In Latin America there are four species that are commercially important because of their large size and natural abundance, such as M. carcinus and M. acanthurus on the Atlantic Ocean slope, and in the Pacific Ocean, M. tenellum and M. americanum. dc.description.abstract	El género Macrobrachium, de la familia Palaemonidae, ha sido de gran interés biológico debido al número de especies que lo conforman, existen más de 100 especies descritas, de las cuales 26 se encuentran en América (Holthuis, 1980). En América Latina existen cuatro especies que tienen importancia comercial por su gran tamaño y abundancia natural como son M. carcinus y M. acanthurus en la vertiente del Océano Atlántico, y en la del Océano Pacífico se encuentran M. tenellum y M. americanum.
