dc.description	The chin cap can be used in class II and class III malocclusion of Angle and open bíte treatment. Despite having more than two centuries of being invented continues to cause controversy. dc.description.abstract	La mentonera es un aparato ortopédico el cual puede ser usado en maloclusiones de clase II y III de Angle y en el tratamiento de mordida abierta. Sin embargo, a pesar de tener más de dos siglos de ser inventada continua causando controversia. En esta revisión bibliográfica describimos las partes de la mentonera, los tipos de mentoneras, la fuerza con la que se usa, la dirección que debe tener, el tiempo de tratamiento sus efectos a corto plazo en la maloclusión de clase III, los efectos del tratamiento en diferentes edades, los cambios dentales, mandibulares, en maxilar, músculos, articulación temporomandibular, base del cráneo y vías aéreas.	es_ES
