dc.description	The purpose of this study was to assess the frequency of Theileria equi in horses imported into Mexico. During different stages of quarantine, 348 blood samples were taken from clinically healthy horses imported into Mexico from 2011 to 2013. Nested PCR (nPCR) of the Merozoite Antigen-1 (EMA-1) gene was performed for pathogen detection. In total, 93 horses tested positive for T. equi resulting in a 26.72% frequency with a 95% Confidence Interval (CI) of 22.07-31.37%. This is the first molecular diagnostics study to identify T. equi-positive horses imported into Mexico these results highlight the importance of nPCR analysis for T. equi in clinically healthy imported horses.	es_ES
dc.description.abstract	El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar la frecuencia de Theileria equi en los caballos importados en México. Durante las diferentes etapas de la cuarentena, se tomaron 348 muestras de sangre de caballos clínicamente sanos importados en México desde 2011 hasta 2013. La PCR anidada (nPCR) de merozoito antígeno-1 ( EMA-1 ) de genes se realizó para la detección de patógenos. En total, 93 caballos dieron positivo a T. equi lo que resulta en una frecuencia de 26,72% con un 95% intervalo de confianza (IC) de 22,07 a 31,37%. Este es el primer estudio de diagnóstico molecular para identificar T. equi caballos -positivos importados en México estos resultados ponen de manifiesto la importancia del análisis nPCR para T. equi en los caballos importados clínicamente sanos.	es_ES
