dc.description	The objective of this work was to study the cellular immune response in piglets of Mexican Pelón (PM) pigs in the pre-weaning and post-weaning stages through two immunological techniques: lymphoproliferation and phagocytosis, characterizing immunologically and comparing it with commercial pigs (Yorkshire x Landrace, YL). Peripheral blood T lymphocytes were stimulated with 5, 10, and 20 µg/mL phytohemaglutinin (FHG) concentrations to establish the optimal mitogen dose in the cell proliferative response and determine the best blastogenic activity. The phagocytic activity of macrophages in both groups of animals was also measured and compared. The results showed a similar response in lymphoproliferation and phagocytosis in both pig genotypes, before and after weaning. However, there was a tendency to give a greater cellular immune response in PM pigs than in YL pigs. However, the percentage of active phagocytes (FA) and ingestion index (II) were significantly different (P<0.05) between groups, being greater and significant the immune response of the PM pig (P<0.01). There were no significant differences between breeds of pigs on the count per minute (cpm) index, as a measure of lymphoproliferation, and digestion index (ID) in phagocytosis. Similar percentages of mortality were observed in both lines of pigs during the study period. It is considered that the cellular immune response of the Mexican Pelón pig in our environment tends to be better than that of an improved commercial pig, such as Yorkshire x Landrace, perhaps due to its immunological memory, rusticity, its better adaptation to the environment and to the fact that they can be reservoirs of genetic determinants of natural resistance to different diseases.	es_ES
dc.description.abstract	El objetivo de este trabajo fue estudiar la respuesta inmune celular en lechones de cerdos Pelón Mexicano (PM) en la etapa pre- destete y post-destete a través de dos técnicas inmunológicas: linfoproliferación y fagocitosis, caracterizando inmunológicamente y comparándolo con cerdos comerciales (Yorkshire x Landrace, YL). Los linfocitos T de sangre periférica se estimularon con las concentraciones de 5, 10 y 20 µg/mL de fitohemaglutinina (FHG) para establecer la dosis óptima de mitógeno en la respuesta proliferativa celular y determinar la mejor actividad blastogénica.. También se midió y comparó la actividad fagocítica de macrófagos en ambos grupos de animales. Los resultados mostraron una respuesta similar en la linfoproliferación y fagocitosis en ambos genotipos de cerdos, antes y después de la etapa del destete. Sin embargo, existió una tendencia de dar una mayor respuesta inmune celular en los cerdos PM que en los YL. No obstante el porcentaje de fagocitos activos (FA) e índice de ingestión (II) fue significativamente diferentes (P<0.05) entre grupos, siendo mayor y significativa la respuesta inmune del cerdo PM (P<0.01). No existieron diferencias significativas entre razas de cerdos sobre el índice de cuentas por minuto (cpm), como medida de linfoproliferación, e índice de digestión (ID) en la fagocitosis. Se observaron porcentajes de mortalidad similares en ambas líneas de cerdos durante el periodo de estudio. Se considera que la respuesta inmune celular del cerdo Pelón Mexicano en nuestro medio tiende a ser mejor que la de un cerdo comercial, mejorado, como el Yorkshire x Landrace, debido quizá a su memoria inmunológica, rusticidad, a su mejor adaptación al medio y a que pueden ser reservorios de determinantes genéticos de resistencia natural a diferentes enfermedades.	es_ES
