dc.description	In order to evaluate the effectiveness in the control of gingivitis of neem extract (Azadirachta indica L.), a plant widely used in traditional oriental medicine and recently introduced to Mexico, four treatments were compared: scaling; scaling and neem; scaling and chlorhexidine, and neem alone, in four groups of 15 patients each, randomly selected and homogeneous in age and gender. All the treatments were effective. Significantly (p <0.05) in the decrease of bacterial plaque, bleeding and inflammation; only the first two treatments in depth to the sounding and in no case one was better than another. Neem proved to be as effective as conventional mechanical and pharmacological treatments, with the advantage of being a natural product, practically innocuous, low cost and good acceptance.	es_ES
dc.description.abstract	Con el propósito de evaluar la efectividad en el control de la gingivitis del extracto de neem (Azadirachta indica L.), una planta de amplio uso en la medicina tradicional oriental y de reciente introducción a México, se compararon cuatro tratamientos: detartraje; detartraje y neem; detartraje y clorhexidina, y neem solo, en cuatro grupos de 15 pacientes cada uno, seleccionados al azar y homogéneos en edad y genero. Todos los tratamientos fueron efectivos. Significativamente (p<0.05) en la disminución de la placa bacteriana, el sangrado y la inflamación; solo los dos primeros tratamientos en la profundidad al sondeo y en ningún caso uno fue mejor que otro. El neem demostró ser igual de efectivo que los tratamientos mecánicos y farmacológicos convencionales, con la ventaja de ser un producto natural, prácticamente inocuo, debajo costo y buena aceptación.	es_ES
