dc.description The first commercial shrimp farms originated in Japan, where in 1934 Fujinaga succeeded in spawning mature organisms and cultivating P. japonicus larvae (Bardach, 1972). However, it was not until the 1960s that the commercial shrimp farming industry began its development (Beveridge, 1991). Shrimp production is basically sustained by three species, which together represent 71% of the total, and correspond to giant tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) 33%, Chinese white shrimp (Penaeus chinensis) 28% and western white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamer) 10%. es_ES
dc.description.abstract Las primeras granjas comerciales de camarón tuvieron su origen en Japón, dónde en 1934 Fujinaga tuvo éxito en el desove de organismos maduros y en el cultivo de larvas de P. japonicus (Bardach, 1972). Sin embargo, no fue si no hasta la década de los 60s que la industria del cultivo de camarón a nivel comercial inició su desarrollo (Beveridge, 1991). La producción de camarón se sostiene básicamente por tres especies, que en conjunto representan el 71 % del total, y corresponden al camarón tigre gigante (Penaeus monodon) el 33%, al camarón blanco chino (Penaeus chinensis) el 28% y al camarón blanco de occidente (Litopenaeus vannamer) el 10%. es_ES
