dc.description	The diversity of mammals in the state of Nayarit has been poorly documented; the information about these species is scarce and scattered. In this work we compile data from the literature, biological collections and field observations, to update the current knowledge of mammals in Nayarit, their diversity and conservation. We documented 162 species, although it is important to mention than in recent years new species of mammals, such as the pocket gopher Thomomys nayarensis and the mouse Peromyscus carletoni, have been described. This has been possible thanks to fieldwork and the use of molecular techniques, so it is very likely that the mammalian diversity could be higher than reported and additional sampling efforts would be required. Current efforts to protect the mammal fauna in Nayarit have consisted in the implementation of natural protected areas at both federal and state level. However, additional efforts are required to carry out wildlife monitoring and inventories because more attention has been paid to charismatic species, such as the jaguar (Panthera onca) and disturbed sites, than to conserved areas, which have been left unprotected and poorly studied, such as the southeastern physiographic region of the Sierra Madre Occidental.	es_ES
dc.description.abstract	La diversidad de mamíferos en Nayarit ha sido poco documentada y la información existente es escasa y dispersa. En el presente trabajo, se hace una recopilación de datos provenientes de la literatura, colecciones biológicas y observaciones de campo, para hacer un análisis sobre el conocimiento actual de los mamíferos en el estado, su diversidad y conservación. Se documentó la presencia de 162 especies, y se destacó que en años recientes se han descrito nuevas especies de mamíferos, como es el caso de la tuza Thomomys nayarensis y el ratón Peromyscus carletoni; esto gracias al trabajo de campo y al empleo de técnicas moleculares, por lo que es muy probable que la diversidad de mamíferos sea aún mayor y se requiera más esfuerzo de muestreo. Actualmente se han dedicado esfuerzos, para proteger la mastofauna del estado, a través de la implementación de áreas naturales protegidas tanto de carácter federal como estatal. No obstante, se requiere mayor estudio para realizar monitoreo de fauna e inventarios, puesto que se ha dedicado más atención a especies carismáticas como el jaguar (Panthera onca) y sitios más perturbados, quedando desprotegidas zonas más conservadas y poco estudiadas, como la representada por la zona sur oriente de la región fisiográfica correspondiente a la Sierra Madre Occidental.	es_ES
