Resumen : El término grafiti deriva de la expresión italiana graffito originada del griego grapho, que significa grabar. Leila Gándara (2002) lo define de la siguiente manera: “Graffities el plural de graffito, que significa “inscripción” o “garabato” en italiano. En italiano, el verbo graffiare significa garabatear y deriva del término griego graphien, que significa “escribir” (p. 15). Por su parte, Joan Garí (1995) se refiere al grafiti de la siguiente manera: “El término proviene del italiano graffiare (garabatear) y un cierto uso extrañamente consuetudinario ha acabado por convertirlo en un sustantivo internacional, al margen de toda convención morfológica” (p. 23). Como se aprecia, estas definiciones coinciden en la naturaleza del término grafiti, proveniente del vocablo italiano que se adopta y se emplea no sólo por los hablantes del español, sino también por los hablantes de otras lenguas, quienes lo adaptan como una palabra correspondiente al idioma propio. Así pues, podemos decir que la definición conlleva necesariamente la inscripción gráfica, ya sea en muros u otros espacios, en donde hay una participación de los sujetos productores.
Descripción : The term graffiti derives from the Italian expression graffito originating from the Greek grapho, which means to record. Thus, we can say that the definition necessarily entails the graphic inscription, whether on walls or other spaces, where there is a participation of the producing subjects.
