Resumen : Los antecedentes de la salud publica en cuba datan de la época de la colonia cuando el municipio y la iglesia católica eran las instituciones civiles y eclesiástica respectivamente, que tenia a su cargo la protección de la salud de la población.el municipio se encarga de disponer de las escasas medidas sanitarias y garantizar la presencia de facultativos que llevaran a cabo la atención medica primaria de forma privada lo que se conoció históricamente como ejercicio secular de la profesión por otra parte la iglesia cristiana católica tenia a su cargo la atención medica secundaria u hospitalaria y fue así que en 1525 el obispo juan de whitte mando fundar el primer hospital en santiago de cuba.posteriormente se fundaron otros dos en la habana en 1538 y 1544 y otro más en bayamo en 1544.
Descripción : The public health antecedents in Cuba date from the time of the colony when the municipality and the Catholic Church were the civil and ecclesiastical institutions respectively, which was in charge of protecting the health of the population. The municipality is responsible for providing of the scarce sanitary measures and to guarantee the presence of physicians who carry out the primary medical attention in a private way what was historically known as a secular exercise of the profession. On the other hand, the Catholic Christian church had secondary medical or hospital care. and so it was that in 1525 the bishop juan de whitte ordered to found the first hospital in santiago de cuba. Later two others were founded in Havana in 1538 and 1544 and another one in bayamo in 1544.
