Resumen : La presente investigación se realizó con el propósito de definir si las compensaciones dentoalveolares presentes en los diferentes tipos de maloclusiones esqueletales, afectan la posición de las piezas dentarias del arco mandibular con respecto a su base ósea, es decir, el reborde WALA; así como también determinar si la magnitud de la maloclusión esqueletal tiene relación con dichas discrepancias dentoalveolares. El reborde WALA se define como una banda de tejido blando queratinizado, adyacente a la unión mucogingival mandibular, se considera ideal individualizar la forma de arco de cada paciente con base a dicho reborde, que según la literatura, es el soporte de las raíces de los dientes inferiores y da la forma de arco para los superiores Actualmente no existe ningún estudio que puntualice la discrepancia entre el arco dental y el reborde WALA según la maloclusión esqueletal.
Descripción : The purpose of this research was to define if the dentoalveolar compensations present in the different types of skeletal malocclusions affect the position of the mandibular arch teeth with respect to their bone base, i.e. the WALA ridge; as well as to determine if the magnitude of the skeletal malocclusion is related to these dentoalveolar discrepancies. The WALA ridge is defined as a band of keratinized soft tissue adjacent to the mandibular mucogingival junction. It is considered ideal to individualize the arch shape of each patient on the basis of this ridge, which according to the literature is the root support of the lower teeth and gives the arch shape for the upper teeth.
