Descripción : In the tropical and subtropical area, one of the main zoosanitary problems that mainly affects bovine production is the tick, which also transmits Anaplasmosis and Babesiosis diseases. The objective of the study was to identify the chemical components in the stem and leaf extracts of the Melinis minutiflora paste, as well as to evaluate the repellent activity at the in vitro and in vivo level and the ixodicide effect against Amblyomma cajennense tick larvae. In vitro repellence and larval mortality data were analyzed and transformed by the Arco sene function; while the in vivo test consisted in the recovery of larvae adhered by the Flannel method in the times (7, 14, 21 days of postinfestation) in plots of pastures (treatments) Melinis minutiflora, Andropogon gayanus, Brachiaria brizantha and Cenchrus ciliaris, the results of four treatments and six repetitions were analyzed in PROC GLM, the mean test was compared by Tukey (P<0).05), using the statistical package (SAS, 2002). M. minutiflora showed the greatest repellent effect (P<0.05) due to the smaller amount of larvae recovered (2.41 ± 1.26) than the rest of grasses, in C. ciliaris (600.89 ± 131.74), A gayanus (72.48 ± 63.24) and B. brizantha (57.32 ± 53.90), there was no difference (P>0.05) between these last two grasses. Differences (P<0.05) in repellency were observed in the three sampling periods. The stem extract and Melinis minutiflora leaves obtained with the organic solvent ethanol, showed repellent and acaricide effects in the order of 72 to 78% and 77 to 84%, respectively, the greatest acaricide effect corresponds to the leaf extract. Likewise, 12 chemical compounds for stem and 7 for leaf were identified by gas chromatography. The most abundant in stem and leaf were 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic Acid (33.42% and 59.44%) and Dibutil phthalate (34.45% and 25.23%, respectively). It is concluded that the chemical components present in M. minutiflora have repellent and acaricide effects in A. cajennense larvae.
